Client Showcase: Lane Engineering, P.C.

As far as still imagery goes, photography is the default visual media for most branding projects. It is usually the most affordable approach with the most familiar visual effect. But, have you thought about illustration and it’s ability to bring novelty to your brand?

Stephen Schildbach was a full time illustrator for 12 years, and although his focus today is Schildbach Design, he at times brings his illustrations skills to branding projects like Lane Engineering. Every page of the website leads with a conceptual illustration describing the services and the way Lane Engineering works. Much illustration on website is very computerized, but this more traditional humanist style conveys the classic historical roots of the company. Lane Engineering works on old New York City buildings testing and upgrading their infrastructure for safety and efficiency.

Client Showcase: Musicians’ Association of Seattle

The Musicians’ Association of Seattle was my first client who hired me for web design. I am so grateful to this Musicians’ Union for all the work they have provided me over the years! This makes them my longest web client—2007 to present (even before I started Schildbach Design in 2008).

This was a large branding project for one person. Because, in addition to creating their logo and website, I had a number of print collateral and online marketing advertisements to do for them throughout the years. We also have gone through two complete website redesigns.

I had to push the WordPress platform to it’s fullest with many custom components—a custom WordPress theme, custom plugins, and custom post types. The custom post types were made for the events area, the members area, the performance area, and the instructors area. There is also a members only area which the WordPress platform helps with, but I still had to develop custom components to this password protected area.

Almost 15 years of projects:

  • Logo design
  • WordPress website (password protected, custom theme, custom plugins, custom post types)
  • Print collateral
  • Print advertising
  • Poster design
  • Brochure design
  • Musicland newsletter
  • Illustration

Client Showcase: Mt. Zion Housing Development

Mt. Zion Housing Development is located in the Central District, Seattle, and provides affordable housing in urban communities while restoring afro-centric culture.

Schildbach Design and the Mt. Zion Housing Development board worked together to create their brand.

Schildbach Design was called upon Mt. Zion Housing Development to create a brand for their non-profit. We worked together during the height of COVID, so we only met via Zoom. The branding consisted of a website, logo, photography, and print collateral. A simple brand like this is also known as a business identity.

With the help of the board, we agreed the branding called for more color than I typically put in my design. So, we integrated the colors from their affiliated Church Mt. Zion Church in the Seattle, Central District (Crimson Red, Purple, Yellow). Thanks to MZHD for the branding assignment!

The Seattle Series, Classical Music Performances in 2022

We all have made huge sacrifices living for two years during COVID. One of those sacrifices is seeing live music. For all of you who love music as much as I do, this has had an effect on my overall happiness. For this article, I’ll be focusing on what some of my clients do to make the world a better place, instead of writing about the web development and design behind the project. But, I will have more to say about the project from a technical standpoint in another article to come because of the new paths I’ve gone down as a web developer and some important tips for people who want to sell tickets on their website.

Chamber Music in Seattle

One of my favorite forms of classical music is smaller ensembles as experienced in chamber music. As stated on their website, “The Seattle Series is a chamber-festival-meets-recital series, featuring ad hoc combinations of awe-inspiring artists who perform together for one evening to create a magical moment in time.  Outstanding Seattle-based artists are given the opportunity to invite their colleagues from around the nation and globe to join them for a unique collaboration, unavailable elsewhere.” The location for this series in the intimate Women’s University Club located in downtown Seattle.
