Although my clients come from an array of professional fields, I work with therapists to build their business identities and websites the most. One of those clients is Elana Sabajon. She is an experienced therapist and has a full schedule, but I’m sure she leaves the door open for new clients.
Elana is a therapist that is unique to me from other therapists. Her empathy runs deep—caring for disadvantaged groups and individuals who have unique lifestyles and are underappreciated by mainstream society. She also applies unique techniques to her therapy such as the Hakomi Method. She offers therapy for individuals, couples and relationships, and families and parents.
As stated best by Elana herself, on her approach page:
“My therapy approaches are rooted in the unwavering belief that transformation begins in a space of safety and trust. I create a supportive environment – online or in person – where we collaborate as equals. Together, we explore beliefs, patterns, and emotional blocks that may be holding you back from the connection you desire.
I integrate insights from attachment theory, neuroscience, and biopsychology to help you understand your relational challenges. Using psychosomatic practices, we listen to your body’s wisdom and transform reactivity into choice and disconnection into understanding.”
Referrals From Other Therapists
Our work together was a referral from two clients I’ve worked with in the past, Eleanor Bell and Ben Trelease. Eleanor and Ben are Therapists as well working separately and together under the business Me You We. I did web maintenance for Eleanor’s individual site, and Ben and Eleanor’s site Me You We. All of these meetings involved web design for therapists and sites using the WordPress Content Management System.
WordPress Web Design
The work I recently did for Elana started as a WordPress web maintenance project, but turned into a full website redesign. I created a custom theme, because as I tell all of my clients, the themes often turn into me disabling and troubleshooting inflexible pieces to the theme, while it is so much easier for me to build my own WordPress theme. I have a deep understanding of the WordPress framework and a solid understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and SQL (which are the coding languages that make a WordPress site). One detail I enjoyed coding with the use of jQuery was her mobile navigation area which smoothly animates from the left side giving the user the page options.
Search Engine Optimization
At this time I’m completing Elana Sabajon’s Search Engine Optimization. Although SEO is not complicated for a small site, it is still essential to implement it to increase the odds of potential clients finding Elana. In the mean time, I’m happy for her that her practice is already doing so well!
Why So Many Clients Who Are Therapists?
I do believe that we attract parts of us. Although I never was a therapist myself, I’ve always had an interest in psychology, philosophy, sociology, and spirituality. I minored in Philosophy in college. Thich Nat Hanh had a deep impact on me in my 20s.
Fast forward to today, and podcasts have been my continuing education. Regarding psychology and therapy, I’ve learned about a wide array of topics from Andrew Huberman on the Huberman Lab Podcast. Regarding philosophy, we always joked in school that “you can’t make a living as a philosopher”. Not true, podcasts have allowed philosophers like Sam Harris make a very good living covering classic philosophical questions within today’s current events in his Making Sense podcast. Although these examples are not specifically therapy, it’s all connected to how to live a happy life, which is one of the universal questions therapists address with their clients, and a question I keep in the back of my mind.
